Casual jam

Hi guys,

I'm a 33 year old bass player, been playing for about 17 years but i've never really had an opportunity to play with others outside of the school Jazz band due to my previous career choice. I'm keen to start playing with other people and try and get into some live music.

I enjoy progressive rock like King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Yes. I like weirder stuff like Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart, and Americana music like The Band, but I also like playing funk, rock, blues and jazz as well.
Ideally i'd like to try and get better at improvisation like the kind of extended jam sessions that the Allman Brothers and The Grateful Dead used to do and I enjoy playing music that has an element of that. I've also been getting into the playing of Percy Jones and Billy Sheehan.

I'm also into composing and recording my own music and I also make my own instruments. I'm currently using a couple of hand made fretless basses as my go to. I don't read music, never really had the urge. Don't really know any theory either but I figure if I can follow along to most of what I hear then i'm ok.
